Afternoon all, just a quickie,

I need to get my sails serviced (Inspected, washed, new UV strip, maybe some spectacles etc).

Any reccomendations ideally in the Gosport area would be most welcome.

When I recently tried to find my favoourite sailmakers in Gosprt, (B&H) I was told they were gone and there is only one sailmakers left alive in Gosport, Coastal down by Camper & Nicholson's. Otherwise there is Seateach in Emsworth (though I've not used them for sails myself) and Arun in Bosham (very good). Arun is the only one I've used, for getting new sails and old ones altered, and I would certainly recommend them.

Lucas Sails at Wicormarine Fareham or Flew Sails next door to them? I've used Lucas myself and when we blew out the main on a Southern Sailing School boat, Flew Sails sorted it while we waited.

C & J Marine Textiles just west of Chichester (Fishbourne) did our genoa last year (clean, service, convert from piston hanks to furlex), seemed OK to us, nice tidy job.

Take a drive round to Hoods at Lymington or use thier collection service. Their winter deal includes free washing and storage but its getting a bit late in the winter...

No where near Gosport but Owen sails have just done mine, - serviced and replaced UV strip plus clean the stackpac for £350.

I weny the the LBS & purchased a Spray Hood, Dodgers, Stack Pack, Mainsail, Snuffer & had my Genoa laundered by Arun. Admittedly they had to visit the boat to measure the Sprayhood but they contacted me for the Cruising Chute to measure the Snuffer. They delivered the lot before my specified delivery date. Their prices were very competetive & they used higher spec materials than many.

All in all I call that good service.

Hoods collect and deliver to their shed at Campers (Gosport Marina). I use their service each year and they have always done a good job for me at a reasonable price; although my sails are from Hood to start with I don't think that matters.
