Has anyone used one of the far east sail makers & would like to comment on the service/quality of sails etc. Had a couple of quotes & they seem very competitive (ie cheap). Spec seems fine using COntender fabric etc.

Looking for standard dacron cruising sails.

Put "hong kong sails" into search.

I used Far East Sails on web. Sails are fine--saving 30%on UK price----Service & 5 month wait lousy. Pretends to represent factory, but would bet "Brad"is just agent. I had to pay approx. 7% import taxes never mentioned 'til delivery.

Next time I would use Hong Kong Sails, an English based agent not pretending otherwise at about the same price, and with an English reputation to protect.

I have used both Far East sails (brad) and Hong Kong sails (Uk Agent) both over last winter. The Far East sail arrived within 4 weeks but VAT was payable ( based on some fictitious price) but still worked out about 10% cheaper than HK sails. The HK sails toom about 8 weeks in all but no extras to pay.

I suspect both are made in the same factory !

Both are of a perfectly acceptable standard. Of course you have tyo do all the measurements yourself and teh temptation is to understate the siszes for fear of getting a (main) sail that's too big, they in turn take a few % off for fear of getting it too big and to allow for stretch, the net effect is that ths sail is probably a few , perhaps 5 percent smaller than the previous one with little roach. But for the price I can't complain.

If I wanted a new one in the next fortnigt I would go to a loacl sailmaker, but in my case the saving was about one third £800 vs £1200 .
