I am looking to replace a suit of sails at a reasonable price so --

Does anyone have any experience of buying sails direct from China?

Can you recommend a sailmaker in China?

Thanks!

I would support the local sailmaker. They will be able to come out to see your boat and measure it up. Show you exactly what your options are, and then send the design to China for manufacture. Some may even make the sails in the UK.
If there are any problems before you sail off round the world they will be able to rectify them without long arguments with a sailmaker in China.
I would talk to people with a similar boat to yours, there are afterall loads of Prouts on the water, and see what they use and would recommend.

For my 40' got Spinnaker, sausage and storm jib from HK Sails. Boat is a very common AWB so they could check measures with those of previuos other boats.
Precise, on time.
Only minor problem in sausage block and masthead attachment (easily dealt with spares I had).
Check prices on theur site with those You get locally.
IF You are looking for cruising sails IMHO best choice.
Cheers

For your information, many of the far east sail makers dont use local cloth so the material isnt an issue. I do agree to use a UK sail maker though to ensure you get good service once you have purchased...just in case any thing goes wrong!!

Always PM me if you want any advise off the forum.

Bought from HK sailmakers genua, main and spinnaker. Excellent material, perfect fit and a good price.
They are very precise and check every thing before they cut the sail. They are different to some of your UK sailmakers where I ordered in the past....The next sail I order will come again from HK Sailmakers for sure...

Expecting my new Genny in a week or so from 'Far East Sails Hong Kong', a V. great deal less than any quote I,ve had from UK, or here in France. Sadly, I can't afford to subsidise noncompetitiveness I'm afraid. Tis the way of the WURLD! Bill

PS. Can't recommend HK Sailmakers, pm if you want to know why. F.E.S.H.K. are good.

BTW. bought sails from a UK sailmaker, I had completed an Atlantic circuit before they got them right. UV strip too tight and split, staysail the wrong cut, they did sort it FOC though! The material used by 'F/EAST' sailmakers is the same spec as you would specify here, so that is absolutely, not an issue.

I got my new mainsail & stackpackfrom Crusader @ the start of last season and I think a very good price for a good spec without the need to go overseas and on hand if any probs
