Sailors, we must be a friendly bunch

My wife and I were just about to leave home for a spin around Weymouth bay, when the phone rang.
Hello says a nice female voice, I have been told you need crew for racing. I explained that two of my regular crew had moved away, and the third was not able to sail because he has started to suffer from vertigo, but if she fancied going two handed I was prepared to give it a go.
After introducing herself, and explaining she had not sailed for a few years I realized she would be ideal for my non too competitive racing style. She then asked when I go sailing next could she come along, well that is in ten minutes, I replied. She turned up and the 3 of us had a great sail. Her club membership was on hold while she was going through a divorce, but now reinstated.
After 10 minutes on the helm she soon got back into it, hitting 7.5 knots on a fetch. She now races once or twice a week, and with her on the helm plus a friend who comes out on occasions we managed to fly the spinnaker on the the third race.

I only typed 3 lines, it timed out and posted the thread.
Anyways as it turns out she is a very nice lady................ So my wife says

As it turns out, most sailors are a friendly bunch, yes.
Some new posters here get the wrong impression. They think we are an aggressive argumentative lot.
The truth is many of us are personally known to each other and we habitually engage in friendly banter which is misinterpreted by newbies.;)
