I hope I'm not infringing the rules on this forum by posting this, but my workplace is in need of another bod. Not necessarily a trained sailmaker, but someone keen on actually being (or learning to be) a sailmaker, not just needing money to pay the bills. Wages are NOT fantastic... job satisfaction is ususally pretty high though. Please PM me if you're interested.

Tied up away from the storm. Oh yes.

Where abouts are you? Didn't do much beyond repairs and seaming up with sails, but I'm an expert covermaker - anything from bespoke RIB covers, asymetrical cushions, cockpit canopies, hoods, awnings, yada yada yada. Not been doing it for over 10 years, though.

The loft's in Essex. Any canvaswork experience would definitely be a plus. I have to admit, I've gone out on a limb putting this post up: I'm NOT the boss- I put the post in as a result of a conversation about when we could get another person in, but I just know from experience that the boss won't start advertising for someone til it's too late to get anyone at all, and then would look in the wrong places... We need someone willing to work for [--word removed--] all, doing (most of the time!) very satisfying work. Anything from squareriggers to classic yachts on the Med circuit via lugsails for 12' dinghies. I hope anyone genuinely interested will PM me, and I can then pass on contact details and encouragement... Lately we've had a string of people who haven't lasted very long for various reasons and we're really in need of someone who'd last long enough to be worth all the time spent training them up.

By the way, no age limit, but crawling around on the floor for most of every day wears the knees out pretty fast, and I'm only 28! Some of the gear we do is pretty heavy too, as are full rolls of cloth. Apologies if I'm sounding ageist...

If only I didn't need to earn money to live I'd jump at this. Hey ho, back to the desk...

Essex too far from me as I'm welded to devon. Job satisfaction is very high, but the low pay and bad knees drove me to other things.
Patterning covers all day in the sunshine very good fun, but long lonely winters not so good.

I'm not selling this very well am I?

Ah well. Bang go my hopes of a career change! Guess I'll just have to stick with contract carpet laying.
