After the winter refit very nice afternoon out on Carrick Roads, light easterly which is ideal, no one else about, beer, snacks...went from Restronguet to the Black Rock, into St Mawes, and back. Much better than Helford where the wind is always up or down river, going about every few minutes.
I have rerigged slightly,: I have to be able to drop the sail from back aft, the boat is very tender so reaching the forestay is difficult, so the stays are made onto the thole pins which can be pulled out, halyard is lead aft also, along with the downhaul. AND, an electric winch on the trailer, much joy. Instead of hauling over the stem, I have a hole in the keel so the boat rises onto the trailer, before I had to lift the towbar and wind the handle at the same time. A battery is in the car boot which doubles up as additional capacity in the camper van.
I think the balance is good, I sit in the stern and she pays off, if I shift towards midships she luffs up, without touching the helm.
I spent a lot of time on it this winter.....good job I didn't buy the 1929 28ft Hillyard I toyed with, never get finished.
