Hi no doubt a strange question, but if you have bad knees you will understand. I live for sailing and even sail for work, skippered charted www.sailingforfun.co.uk But is there anybdy out there who has had a knee replacement that sails, i am possible having a new knee this month and am concerned that i will not be able to continue sailing. I would like to continue skiing but I gues that is asking too much your coments will be very gratefully received.

"knee replacement that sails" - I shall resist a comment on that. However if people who are missing legs can sail (e.g. Tristan Jones) then I dont see that it should be to much of a problem. It may be that you will have to mod your bot slightly, or even change to a design that allows easier movement and less slamming (i.e a catamaran). The same must also be true of skiing - there are people who sky with artificial legs - but if two planks of wood no longer appeals, what about the ski bikes?

There's a guy at our club, early 60's, has had both hips replaced, he races dinghies competitively in all weather.

nothing to do with knees but it made me smile, working in the garden one day I spotted my neighbour, an 82 yr old retired farmer and suggested he might like to help.'no', he replied, 'I might hold you up, I can only use a spade for two or three hours these days, what with my artificial hips 'an all'. The funny part was that as a fairly fit 42 year old, I was at that time leaning on the spade handle gasping for breath after about twenty minutes......................

Should be no problem, so long as you remember to change your anodes regularly.

Good luck.. Nick
