I know this is an IPC paid for forum, but has anyone got an opinion on sailing today since the take over? I've always been impressed with the photography on the front cover but have yet to shell out post 2009.
Duncan Kent is still there I see!

Some say the quality of the photography is a notch above the other boatie mags. I couldn't possibly comment.

Don't know, but don't like the way that Classic Boat has gone under the same ownership, although no doubt the changes have been for good commercial reasons.

Personally I hope y&y and sailing today become combined and a decent alternative to YM. Competition makes a good product IMHO. Sorry snooks!

I quite like ST. Doesn't take itself too seriously (e.g. the book reviews) and not afraid to give honest descriptions of gear in their tests.

To be honest, I'm just pleased to see my picture on the front page of a magazine in WH Smiths. However it's courteous to credit the person who took the photo!

They received it through my work in a popular sailing agency.

I scanread an issue from a newstand and was so shocked by the grammar and spelling in "Jake's" editorial comment that I declined to purchase!

I quite like it - but as my boat featured in September, I would say that, wouldn’t I.

I don’t have a sub to any mag but I buy one almost every month. Last month it was PBO and yesterday YM. Sometimes, I buy a couple in the same month.

Personally, I think that each mag has something to offer but some months are of more interest than others. Vive la difference.

.

It's not courtesy, it's the law under the copyrights designs and patents act. They author of a piece of work has the right to be credited as such "in a clear and ledgable manner" And it's the reliance of non-professional to be happy with a credit that devalues photography. They are selling magazines and (one would hope) making money and using your image to facilitate that.

The minimum you should get is a credit. At the moment you are the only person that sees that pic that knows you took it.

If you are happy with that then fine, I wouldn't be.

By the sounds of it it was his boat, but he didn't take the picture

So poor I declined a renewal subscription for this years Christmas present

+1.

I'd been a subscriber since Issue one until a couple of months ago. In addition to the points already made, the standard of writing has dropped (too many grammatical mistakes and they need a good proof reader), there are too many factual errors, the gear reviews that aren't actual 'comparison tests' fill too many pages with info that's no more than readily available elsewhere and I detest the banal comments made by the editorial staff when anyone disagrees with them. All IMHO of course. Sorry ST, I've cast off.
