I am planning a trip accross to holland from the northeast of england, Do i go straight accross or go down the coast then accross.

The boat i have got is a samphire 26, Any ideas if these boats are okay to go straight accross?

Providing she's in good condition, well equiped for the voyage should be no problem. There are plenty of folks on here who regularly make the crossing so you should get loads of advice.

You don't say how experinced you are but in any case if you don't fancy the longer legs its easy to go from Ramsgate in Kent and visit a couple of French or Belgian ports en route. I've been several times in my Eygthene 24 From Folkestone . If its yuor first time you'll love it to bits . Pbo july page 106 has an interesting article that will be of interest to you .

Boats usually outlast crew, so agree, as long as boat is in good condition.

If you havn't done a 24hour+ passage before, make sure you get plenty of sleep, food and drink.

I'd go down the coast, leave from Lowestoft, southwold, straight across, you miss the main oilrigs and miss any traffic seperation zones, plus you can have a last pint at the harbour inn in southwold and massive cod, chips and mushy peas before the off, in case the wind fails!
