Sailing through The Bridge...

Nicely done, Doug. :-)

Are you around for the Fireworks Championships Tues/Wed nights? Andy and I have a rough plan for a mini-holiday; up to the boat tonight, anchor in Cawsand, sail to Dartmouth Saturday, stay there Saturday and Sunday nights, sail back Mon/Tues (via Salcombe or Yealm), then watch the fireworks Tues and Wed nights. All subject to change/weather obviously.

Ann (prev. CornishSailor, but I haven't worked out how to change it back on the new forum!)

Here is some more dodgy Vid from last Sunday....

Wind is WNW 4 or so....

Brings back happy memories when instructing MN Cadets at the old Plymouth School of Maritime Studies in the 80s. We used to sail over The Bridge in the days when it was marked only by a pair of lateral buoys. On one occasion the port hand mark was out of position and when trying to go through at LW Springs we ran aground on a Tesco shopping trolly! A good lesson in not relying on marker buoys positions at LW when they can stretch their cables out quite a distance in a bit of a blow.

On another, when there had been a NW gale the night before, the port hand buoy called W. Bridge broke loose and fetched up on Bovisand beach.

Last time I sailed through the bridge it was a SW F6 outside and we'd made it up from Fowey in 4 hours! With a top speed coming in of 10 knots  ....We did surf in faster, but the log decided to have a moment and stop at 9 knots

Came over the bridge with main only, got through, rounded up, dropped the main, parked and went for a beer! :)

It was a good day!
