There are changes, of course, and quite a lot of them have to do with shrinking budgets (although VNF do do a pretty good job). But they are also largely superficial and what is at the heart of what makes the French waterways so good and so unique, remains.

Probably not specific to this thread but worth noting!
Coming up the Canal du Midi a few days ago - depth down to 1.3M in a stretch south of Trebes (PK 118 to 120 ish).
Mentioned to VNF folk - they are aware. Combination of lowish water level and silting downstream of some of the locks.

There are also currently depth problems on the Canal de Bourgogne and weed problems also on the same canal between Dijon and St Jean.
