Evening all,

We are currently on our last cruise of the season and have spent the week so far in and around Helsinki. Last weekend there was a sailing ship regatta in town and we went out with the boat to have a look. They are a beautiful sight and the old fortress of Suomenlinna gave a suitable backdrop.

I once had a change to spend a weekend on one and remember our cruise back in a moderate head seas. It was a very special feeling to have a nap inside and listen to the wooden ship creak in the waves. Marvellous!

30 or so meters of wooden boat is nightmare to maintain, but I'm glad that there are volunteers and enthusiasts who keep these ships going.

I shot a short vid which I thought I'd share.

Great work K, nice music choice, appropriate gull sounds and the essential luffing sounds of the sails....you think of everything!
Glad you are getting suitable weather for a final cruise, although you can't complain about the past season, I heard reports from folks that had been up the artic circle in northern Finland and experienced 29 deg!

Thank you!

I'm glad you noticed :encouragement:

I honestly couldn't have asked for a better weather for the summer. Temps constantly at around 30C, warm waters, balmy evenings, bliss. Years are not brothers as 2017 was about as cold as a summer around here can be. I looked back a vid from mid July last year where we were sitting in the cockpit, covers down and the Eberspacher humming in the background. This July we didn't much use covers at all.

For some reason I missed this thread right after you posted it, but I'm glad to have noticed it now.
Stunning video production as usual, K.
If the event organizers are interested in a promotional video, they would struggle to get anything better than this! :encouragement:

Thanks, P! As a geeky sidenote, I recently got myself the DJI Ronin-S gimbal, which is excellent in capable hands, but tricky to balance and operate in the hectic situation I was in. Left it in the box eventually, but it would have made a big difference here as there was quite a lot of wake from other boats. Need get more familiar with it.

As an update to our season ending cruise, we got to finish it off in pretty much perfect conditions. When we cast off it was very foggy and somewhat choppy, but an hour into our cruise the fog cleared, revealing a cloudless sky, and winds died completely. We pottered for a while and observed a huge flock of migrating birds overtake us on their journey to warmer climes. It was a very nice ending to our season.

The boat is now in a shed, the clouds are hanging low and it's snowing wet snow in 90 degrees angle. And I'm on summer tyres... But, hey ho, waiting for the next summer :).
