I'm currently reading Harry Etheridge's description of Maurice Griffiths' then (1939) new 'Lone Gull'. The cockpit is described as having "in addition to the thwart, there are two sloping sailing scats on the cockpit coatings."
Google and Wikipedia have not turned up a definition. Can anyone tell me what a scat is?
