I was channel flicking while having supper and came across one of the best bits of sailing telly I have seen - ever.
A programme called Soillse on BBC Alba.
It tells the story of a circumnavigation of the North Pole using seaways freed from permanent Arctic ice, from Oslo over the top of Siberia to Alaska, Canada, Greenland and back to Norway... all in a smallish trimaran with precious litte freeboard.
I draw attention to the programme which will not be on council telly in the South, but it may be available on I-player: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rl3hr
Enjoy... if the link works.

Anyone else think they were a bit crazy to do that trip in a lightly built (Corsair?) trimaran? Very impressive trip and well done them but I would have wanted to do it in a more rugged boat, made me cringe every time they hit a growler or burgy-bit.

Agreed, sailing very realistically shown when underway. didnt like the GW propaganda at the end of the video, which is what the video was made to portray

There are a number of places on the West Coast where there is a noticeable difference between the BA or BA derived chart and the actuality. I don't know about Arisaig (I was last in there before GPS existed) but e.g. in Loch Sunart if you go through the middle of the passage between Risga and the Ardnamurchan coast the plotter shows you on the beach. Blindly following the charted mid channel would put you on the rocks. Antares Charts (no connection etc.) provide a very useful tool for exploring an expanding range of such awkward places, but as yet they can't operate on a dedicated chart plotter, just a laptop, tablet, or other difficult to see in sunlight device.
