We are heading south this summer, however my wife will not be able to leave her job until the beginning of october. I plan to sail the boat with some friends down to La Coruna or Portugal during the summer, fly back to Norway and wait for my wife to finish her job. Then we will sail down the coast of Portugal and into the Med before Christmas 2002.

I have ordered pilot books for Spain and Portugal but while I wait for them to arrive: Whats sailing like in Portugal late autumn? (oct-dec) Stormy?

Thank you!

Jon, I sail all year round on the N.coast of Spain, normally the weather is fine with occasional days when it's better to stay put but normaly fine. This year has been a bit exceptional and is the first year since I can remember when I haven't sailed on the 19/20th of December. Something to do with freak Siberian front causing it to snow. Happy sailing

The problem with Portugal in the winter is the coastline. It is straight and not very interesting. Because of the southwesterlies that prevail that time of the year there aren't many places to go to and most harbour entrances can be downright dangerous when the weather turns nasty. However things in the Algarve are much nicer.
