Hi All,

Me and my husband are fairly new to sailing we have recently taken the RYA competent crew course, and sailed with a flotilla, however need to get more experience and sailing hours prior to doing RYA Day Skipper.

What is the best way to see if anyone needs or wants crew. We live in the midlands area so would have to travel to sail - but we're open to most areas if you can offer any opportunities to sail - or know anyone who can.

During the winter I do non-commercial sailing weekends aimed at people like yourself.

It could be a sailing weekend in the Solent or a night sail across the channel to France or Alderney, depending on winds and tides.

I am currently looking for a crew to do a distance mile weekend with sextant and dead reckoning navigation techniques (Switch of the GPS)

For more information contact me through my web site

Most of the sailing schools do mile builder sessions over weekends or weeks. These can be a good way of getting good experience, but tend to be fairly expensive.

There are also forums for crewing opportunities, and I suspect that most experiences are good, but you never know what you might get.

There are also clubs and associations that may offer the middle ground. Seeing that you live in the midlands have you considered HOEOCA http://www.hoeoca.org.uk/. They seem a friendly bunch and have a number of boat owners who are happy to show you the ropes.

Sailing Experience to further RYA Study

Hi

Two parts to this note:

a) http://www.sailingnetworks.com this web site is free to register with and lists both boat owners and crew to meet each other. Plus information on each.

b) I source virtually all my crew from this site including one of my best friends from the Midlands! For people who travel such a distance, you need to think about a full week-end sail and we have a lot of fun at Bank Holiday week-ends.

Suggest you register and if you like the look of Aurai, please get in touch. We do our best to run the boat to RYA tried and tested teaching and techniques as it means people can interchange easily between school boats and us. The majority of our crew are regulars to Aurai but cannot devote every week-end. Which leaves us regularly looking for crew.

Cheers
