Andrew Gormleys figures are to be removed on Health and Safety grounds from Crosby. Now I know that most Solent sailors will have no idea where Crosby is but what a pathetic excuse. Removing Jimi's floating fridge from the East - or was it west - end of IoW would have been much more use!
Seriously has anyone ever got close enought to Crosby beach (in a boat) to be worried?

Re: Jimi\'s fridge?

Drifting backwards off the Needles one day in June someone in the party shouted "Lookout for the old boiler!"
So that's what it was . . .

Er, Crosby's North of Watford innit? Last time I tried I was turned back by Immigration. Sed I was a foreigner.

On the local news last night they were saying that the problem was peeps trying to reach the furthest seaward ones, and getting into problems with the tide.

A grumpy rod fisherman was also complaining that he was getting his weights caught round them.

They are still there for two weeks yet. Plenty of time for the Solent brigade to sail up and have a looksie. They are a simple idea, but have a curious visual effect when you see them for real. Modern sculpture at its best imho.

In case the Solent mob haven't a clue what this thread is about, here're details of another place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm a big fan of Gormley. I thought the Angel of the North was an eyesore when they first put it up, but it has become a real symbol of the North East, and I was wrong about it.

We're fortunate to have Sound 11 in the Crypt of Winchester Cathedral. In the photo below, it's high and dry but the crypt floods from time to time, and it gets surrounded by water.

You are also wrong about the angel being in the North West! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not any more, I'm not! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's too early for me - I'd go back to bed, if it weren't for the fact that I'm in the office.

You can see why I've never done Yachtmaster, though I'm aware of at least one other forumite who occasionally gets East and West mixed up. However, my lips are sealed .......... at a price.

I dont know if any sailing /boating takes place in the area but a 600kg lump of cast iron could give you a nasty surprise in a dinghy or small powerboat. Handy for mooring weights I suppose. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Looked at Another Place, realised the real reason why they are to be removed... they are showing their willies! Oop there, they are a bit prudish, I believe, esp councillors /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just been on news - how come there was no H&S issues when they were put there in the first place?

Surely H&S Exec should be taking council muppets to task as they obviously failed to do a proper risk assesment when they were installed?

Just like out local council - leave local swimming baths to fall to pieces then when it starts to fall down use its state as an excuse to cut another service. They had the electricity disconnected and installations removed so that the cost of repairs suddenly became untennable. They are selling council property off to prop up there mispending and moving council staff into rented accomodation - more of Britians closing down sale.[/rant]
