Chartering out of Split on Sat 22nd and heading out to the Islands and weather dependant hopefully the following:

Milna
Palmizana
Korcula
Komica
Maslinca

It's a lads trip so sharing expenses means we can tie up in a Marina each night.

Question is do we have to book any berths at this time of year if turning up late in the day?

Apart from Palmizana which I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, the rest should be fine in late September even if you don't follow the Summer rule of always being in a marina by 14:00. Korcula might be awkward but in April it was mostly empty and in October it will be the same.

Thanks - made an enquiry about Korcula and they want £100 a night for a 45 foot monohull!!! Thought the prices would drop out of high season.

In Croatia you go to marinas as rarely as possible - and £100 a night for 45 foot monohull may well be the out of season rate. You just try Palmizana if you want expensive.

But harbour walls like Hvar Town, Milna just past the fuel berth, Jelzsa and others are about a third of the price and of course anchoring for free is what most people do most nights and the end of September may be a bit cool late in the evening in the cockpit for a meal, but the sea will be really really warm after this Summer, so on your route I'd be probably doing anchor at Krknasje on Drvenik Veli, Milna on the quay, Jelsa on the quay, Pokrovenic anchorage (or Hvar town quay depending on which way you want to go round Hvar) then splash out for a night in Korcula marina. Or if the weather is nice and I'm feeling stingy then anchor nearby in the lovely Badija and take the tender to Korcula Town.

Thanks again for the useful info - we had a Bav 49 last year in early Sept and from memory the Marinas at Murter, Tribunj and Zut were all about £50 to £60 a night.

Yes, we had an annual berth at Murter last year as the the marinas north of Kremik are much better value but further away from the best (but this is contentious) cruising grounds between Split and Korcula.

Try Lumbarda if you really want a marina on Korkula. There is a frequent bus service into Korkula town about 3 miles away. We just turned up, mid-July a couple of years ago.

I hate to say this but why on earth would you want to. You are surrounded by some of the most wonderful anchorages. We were there for three weeks in the summer and didn't spend a single night in a marina. Go in for a short stay in the morning pick up the victuals you need and leave, it is very rare to be asked for a short stay fee.

Thanks for this - have sent an email off to the marina.

There also appears to be a Town Quay in Korcula on the Western side - likely to be better value also.

Yes anchoring every night would be fine it was just Mrs Mad and myself but this trip has different requirements!

I think Badija is fully buoyed now, so you're going to pay whether you take a buoy or not! :ambivalence:

You don't want to go on the quay in the town at Korcula. In the afternoon when the sea breeze kicks up its horrible. In addition it is mainly taken by mega-yachts. There is the very protected anchorage just round the corner. You may get charged for anchoring. We went twice this year and got charged once! If the sea is choppy there are water taxis to Korcula town. If the sea is smooth its easy to dinghy around. If in between, take the dinghy to the shore and its a short walk over the hill to the town.
