Hmm, as it is britished flagged I think VAT *should* be payable. If it was under a Croatian flag, then no VAT would be payable provided you didn't outstay the permitted visitors period.

However, of all the paperwork I got asked for in Greece, I was NEVER asked to prove the VAT status of Whitelighter. In fact, contrary to popular beleif, the VAT status is only the remit of the country of registration. All the Greeks (or the French etc) can do is notify UK HMRC that you haven't paid VAT. And since you are keeping it outside the EU then no VAT needs to be paid.

Actually, why not register it in Jersey? Then you carry a British flag but Jersey boats don't have to pay VAT.

No harder than P1 registry in the UK mainland. Costs about 30% more (extra £200.) You would want P1 registry anyway, the SSR cert looks so noddy some Greek port police don't accept it /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
