In my search for the right boat, I have found a few in the Athens area which seem worth a look. Thinking about bringing her to the UK, does anyone have any experience of doing this, and how long it might take, what route, do I bring her to Marseille and put her on a truck to Les Sables etc.?

Hi, Takes around 3 months to sail back throught the french canals.you will have to have the mast unstepped / stepped for the inland bits. if you have the time its well worth it and cheaper than a truck even if you hire a skipper to sail some of it for you.

Actually trucks are not that expensive.... relatively...... to the time and costs of sailing back yourself... Athens to Gib and round the outside is a long way and all to windward. Athens to the French coast is probably around 2-3 weeks and then up the canals (if the draft allows) is 2 to 3 weeks - and pop out at Le Havre. the options are on my web site as well as hauliers... Why not get some quotes from Athens... unless you have a couple of months plus to DIY...

Contact Bavaria Yachts.....

..to see how much they will charge to get your boat from Isola at the top of the Adriatic (where they launch & fit out their eastern Med new sales boats) as a return load over the Alps to somewhere where you can link into the European waterways and hence to the channel/North Sea. -Just a thought; they must have dozens of low-loaders going back empty.

Re: Contact Bavaria Yachts.....

I brought my boat from Turkey to Portaferry, it took me 13 months. But there were an awful lot of marinas/pubs/clubs that we had to stop at!!

I also had to go to work every other month. It cost me a few quid, but it was one hell of an adventure.
