Do they need a license on the Thames. Call me thick, but I can't see for looking on the EA site.....

Lower Thames is defined as Tail of Bray Lock to Teddington Lock ..... you do need a licence for that part of the river i'm afraid ....

Do you mean the tidal Thames ( below Teddington ) ? In which case you are correct ....

Time for a plea from me

Meant to say this for a long time; I get confused when folk here talk about sections on the river. I've got used to EA's terms (bit of a chance as they seem to rename sections every time there is a management reshuffle /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ).

To me "Upper Thames" is that lovely quiet bit above Osney where "Palazzi degli gin" cannot venture (easily), but I suppose for many Abingdon is the limit.

For consistency I'll accept EA's current definition:-

Upper Thames (Cricklade to Cleeve Lock)
Middle Thames (Cleeve Lock to Bray Lock)
Lower Thames (Bray Lock to Teddington Boundary)

'course that's shot to pieces as there are "Upper Thames" -
-Rowing Club at Henley,
-Yacht Club at Sonning.

Standards _Pah!

Re: Time for a plea from me

No, coastal Thames!

Its got tides, innit!

(The BBC series "Coast" visited Teddington, since by their definition it was on the Coast.

Well,Teddington has a lifeboat so it stands to reason..

Missed one;

Plus sailing club at Bourne End

(I think that's right, if somebody could confirm)

Re: Time for a plea from me

Mind you, once you're on the tidal Thames then there are the PLA divisions: Upper, Middle and Lower (and Estuary) River.

But you don't need a licence for any boat for any of them.

Not that I'm smug or anything ........

Re: Time for a plea from me

Wouldn't surprise me as there seems to be a concerted effort to completely kill off leisure boating on the Thames and the whole country for that matter. You'll soon need a license to own a boat!

Increased License fees + Increased Fuel costs + Proposed Drink Boating Ban + etc etc etc

Soon the cheapest way to enjoy yourself will be to take up drugs!

Oh, and just read in the Metro today that it could be a wet summer again! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Time for a plea from me

I agree, in the fuel price forum Tingdene are already charging 99p per litre before the tax goes on in Nov!

We are engaged in some serious thinking in our household!

Re: Time for a plea from me

Maybe it was joke left over from April Fools day! £2 a litre after November then.

Any way of converting a boat to run on wine? Tesco's are selling it for half price so it'll soon be cheaper than diesel!

Funny, I thought most boats already ran on wine!
