Sailing / Chartering Stockholm Archipelago

Hi everyone

I am looking to organise a sailing trip for next spring and was thinking about going to the Stockholm area. Does anyone have any experience in chartering and sailing a boat there in terms of best time to go (say May, June ?), good charter companies/charter bases, places to go, iteneraries, web sources etcetera.

It is one of the best cruising grounds I have ever enjoyed, and would not hestitate to go back there. It gets very busy from just before midsummer night (very big occasion over there) until mid August, then all goes quiet again.
Lots of lovely harbours; the stern anchoring takes a bit of getting used to, but generally very clean and relatively cheap. The nature harbours, where you tie up to trees and rocks are a sheer delight. Check that you have full charts and pilots on board to take advantage of all the little channels and anchorages.

Pilotage is alarming at first, but actually very straightforward as, without real tides, what you see is what you get. Just go very slowly if you go 'off piste' as the rocks are an ouch if you get them wrong! Stockholm Vasahamn is a must do, the island of Uto very pleasant and Vaxholm is good too. English is spoken by almost everyone, and you will find lots of helpful advice and suggestions.
Only downsides are crowded in some spots, eating ashore is expensive, as is alchohol, so take full advantage of your travel allowance, do lots of BBQ's and stock up on mossie repellant.

If you just google stockholm/sweden charter quite a few come up.

It has also been highly recommended that I join the Cruising Association. Somebody on here is a member and I'm sure will pop up soone and give some great advise, as they did us when we first started looking at this.

No real advice to offer, just enjoy it:

Perhaps I do have some advice. I found "Arholma-Landsort and Gotland" by Lars Hassler and Lars Granath to be pretty a pretty good pilot book for the area. (English Language version available.)

Like the previous poster, I thoroughly recommend the book Arholma to Landsort to plan your trip. As far as I know it's the only good book unless you can speak Swedish.

We chartered this boat http://rtc.se/hyr_bat/boat/878, she's not young but we loved her!

The archipelago is great, better winds, much prettier, less crowded, and better food than in Croatia where we chartered last year. The sailing is easy, no tides or waves just underwater rocks to look out for so good navigation skills are important.
