I started up with Sailblog around 15 years ago but have barely used it. Life has changed and a blog would be a great thing for me to start up properly. Are there any better offerings (paid or otherwise) these days ?. Many thanks ........

This is probably only suitable for the technically oriented, but we run our sailing blog with GitHub Pages:

Latest logs

It is free, and very flexible. We have automations to rescale images, create tracks of each sail to the map, etc.
The source code for the website can be found in:
GitHub - meri-imperiumi/log: Logbook

We do most of the writing with the GitJournal mobile app, as that makes picture uploads etc easy.

I used Sailblogs for a few years, but found it rather limited and am back on Google Blogger.

Blogger is free and I and do stuff with HTML that I could not do on Sailblogs.

My only grip is I can't dynamically import a spreadsheet and format it neatly.

Personally I am in favour of using Wordpress for a blog. Given the right hosting package and use of the right theme you can set it up pretty much how you like and of course if you buy your own domain name then it id yours and very much unique.
