Sailing barge "Greta".Lots of Photos of boats and water .
Things did not look to promising for a day out on the sailing barge Greta as we assembled on the quay side in Whitstable and a glance down the dock entrance across towards the Isle of Sheppey said it all.....Gloomy.
Greta leaves the dock with some bemused onlookers, Captain Steve(the owner) at the helm.
Several local sailing clubs were making the most of the wind and it was the day of the Sheppey Round the island Race.
As usual it was a typical late summer day with gust up to 25knots and a nice big tide going in the opposite direction,in other words normal Swale conditions.
We meet the only other barge out today the Mimosa.
Who whizzes past like we are standing still
Our skipper claims it is because she has no propeller to slow her down.
Stuff any boater will recognise on their way to Ramsgate.
Looking foreward
The Isle Sheppey in the background,always looks better from a distance.
Heading back home.
Shallow water to either side.
Our motly crew.
