I am looking to buy a cheap trailer sailer.
Could any one give me any information on the Sailfish 18 ( sailing performance, overnighting, mods etc) or maybe recommend another similar boat.

I have a prelude 19 but she's not a trailer sailer because she's a fin keel but when I sent for the PBO copy shop litreture they sent me details of other simler boats.
Sailfish is one of them, the describtion is as follows,

For - lifting keel and simple rig easy for trailer sailing, spacious cockpit, bright and airy cabin

Against - Indifferant sailing performance, No outboard well, poor access to lightly engineered lifting kell mechanism.
dissplacment 1000lb
ballast 250lb
sail area 174sqft
headroom 4.5ft
I used to have a Manta 19 although she had a stubby keel about a 1ft I couldn't fault her. Very nice boat but not really a trailer sailer

Hope this helps

i bought a sailfish last year and have sailed on windermere and the norfolk broads, its my first boat so i havent got much to compare with but so far so good! its easy to launch and recover and there is a great owners association with mods book listing all the mods owners have made, if you send me a privite message ill give you the details. Only down side is space down below, the keel case gets in the way a bit, having said that ive spent a week on the broads with my wife and two young kids.......In october!!
