Saildrive Shaft Oil Seals Renewal

Is there any guidance out there as to when shaft seals ,as part of regular maintenance,should be replaced,assuming all seems well ie no sign of water in the oil.

Only need replacing normally if there is water showing in the oil. However on many boats the shaft needs removing to get the drive out for diaphragm replacement, so makes sense to replace the seals at the same time.
