I've said it before and I'm preaching it again. DO NOT put copper based antifoul on your saildrive!!!!! For example cruiser Uno, trilux, and so on.

Convert to a non=copper based anti-foul like prop-o-drive or Outdrive antifouling by Jotun

Copper based antifouls will hasen the demise of your saildrive annode and eventually your prop, and the saildrive itself....

...and eventually mightn't be too long a coming.

hum, I put a few layers of base epoxy to isolate, and then put coppercoat on the saildrive. Nothing too horrid happened so far. Normal anode erosion as per before coppercoating the saildrive.

So i reckon this is a scare story!

Isn't Trilux designed to go on sail drives??

You've got me worried now.....I've been using it for the last 6 years!

Previous threads have stated that Coppercoat differs from other copper-based antifouling in that the copper particles are rounded and insulated from each other by the epoxy. Thus the coating is non-conducting and quite safe to apply to aluminium.

Question for tcm

I am having Coppercoat applied next week. As described Epoxy first then Coppercoat.

My question is how did you deal with the rubber boot between the saildrive and hull? Epoxy and CC over the top or remove it CC and fit a new one after?

Thanks in advance

That was my understanding too. I've been using it for 15 years and no corrosion on the leg so far.

+1. Says it on the tin!!
