I am considering having my roller-reefed genoa modified to include some small transparent window(s) - like a sailing dinghy - to give better visibility.

Has anybody tried this, and if so, with what success? The boat is 9M with a large, low-cut genoa.

Any recommendations for a sailmaker (Solent / Southern England)?

Thankyou.

I did try the same thing on my Delher 34 as you think of but not implemented.

The sailmaker told me that due to material differences between the window panel and the sail cloth panel, the shape of the sail may change with time and unable to maintain the desired shape. He also commented that it works on dinghy sails which is smaller in size but not recommented for the larger yacht sails which will encounter larger wind pressure with increased sail area.

I took the sailmaker's advise and drop the idea 5 years ago. However, with materials/techology enhanced rapidly, you may wish to consult the sailmaker again.

If you gonna try, I would like to know the result as a window really help improve safty by reducing close encounter risk.

Regards,

Arthur
