Hi East Coasters,

I have removed my 3 sails with a view to having them cleaned and repaired.

Has anyone used Parker and Kay's service for this ? I understand that they use 'Tip-Top' on the South Coast for the cleaning.

Your recommendations/comments would be appreciated.

I used Gower/Dolphin last year for my main & genoa. Missed some quite obvious stitching that needed doing - I know they charge a basic £25 for "general overhaul" but as far as I can tell none was done & they didn't flag up any repairs that might have been outside the £25 charge. I don't think they looked at them to be honest.

Cleaning was Ok - nothing outstanding.

But I won't bother again unless they're really bad - there are better ways to spend £178.48p

would reccomend suffolk sails (www.Suffolksails.net) in woodbridge, nice and friendly charge about £3kg for wash using tip top (same as most sailmakers), repairs came to approx £24 per sail. Even took time to call us to warn that it was going to cost more than they estimated when we went in.

They seem to be getting a lot of recommendations.

I need some repair work doing on my sprayhood so I think I'll drop it in to them & see what they say (they're only 25 mins away).

It is strange how good businesses seem to get recommendations.

The welcome and friendly service at Suffolk Sails is reason enough to use them but how about this:

£40 to wash and check a large genoa
£65 for a pair of new spray dodgers
£101 to wash & reproof a 10ft wide sprayhood AND remove two windows from it and replace with zip out windows.

All with lots of advice and prompt telephone calls. I may not be able to afford the new mainsail but I sure will be ordering the new staysail - £200 all in.
