Myself and partner "traded up" to a slightly bigger boat last year, the plan was to sail it from Southampton around to North Wales during our 2 week summer holiday. Unfortunately we ended up spending 5 days in Portland Harbour..so only got it as far as Milford Haven! :o We took a bit of a battering en route and the sails need looking at. In particular I think we need a new UV strip on the genoa. I'd prefer to get this done up north, we have the sails up here. I'm based in Nantwich, but travel often to Liverpool, Manchester etc. The only one I can find up here is on the Wirral:
Wirral Sail & Tent Ltd
21 Oaklea Rd
07712 891917

Failing that we could get them looked at near Milford - I found these:
STEPHEN RATSEY SAILMAKERS,
8 Brunel Quay,
Neyland,
Milford Haven,
Pembrokeshire,
UK SA73 1PY
Tel: +44 (0)1646 601561
Fax: +44 (0)1646 601968

Has anyone used either of these, and can recommend? Or if you have any other sail makers in either area I'd be grateful to hear about them!

Thanks in advance! :)

I've just had a new Uv strip done by ratseys in Neyland and they have done a superb job. We have used them for years, they completely re rigged our current boat last Winter and have also done previous boats in the past. I 100% trust them and am always delighted with the quality and price of the work. No connection other than a satisfied customer.

Stephen Ratsey made my furling genoa eight years ago. They also replaced my furler, added reefing points on my main and carried out work on my mast. They did some work when my boat was on the yard in Lawrenny, they also did work when I had my boat in Neyland marina. Excellent service.

Another positive one for Ratseys, they fitted a UV strip for me, plus some minor repairs around 4 years ago and I would have no problem going back to them next time sail or rigging work is required.

We had our uv strip replaced by Boatshed North wales based at Y Felinheli.
Ours failed half way through the season so we just pulled the remaining bits off as it does not add any structural strength. Cause of failure is usually uv degradation of stitching!

We sailed from The Hamble to Holyhead two years ago, two weeks end of August / September.
