I am looking on advice on which book will give best details on how to change the luff tape and add a UV strip to existing sails.

I need to have this done on a couple if sails and at the prices being quoted I could buy a new RR genoa. This seems a bit silly to me.

Bit's on making sail covers etc would also be usefull.
I am not looking for details of how to recut or of make new sails.

Thanks

Iain

Practical Sail Care and Repair - Lisa Carr ISBN 1853104639 Waterline 94 Paper
Canvaswork and Sail Repair - Don Casy ISBN 0713650044 Adlard Coles '98 Hard.
Neither one offers specific details on luff tape but Carr is good on UV strip.
Casy is "American" and strong on canvas work, sprayhoods, awnings etc. Carr is better on sails and bears an English imprint. Both are probably out of print but I bet some chandlers still have stocks. I have seen them both discounted/remaindered at some time. Brian.

Ordered "The Sailmaker's Apprentice",

And have since also ordered the Lisa Carr one.

Between the two I should find enough information.

Thanks for the help from all of you.

Thanks,

That's where I was planing to go. It's been the best I have been able to find so far. They certainly have a wide range of products.

I need to replace a twin 3 / 6 mm ish luff tape for a Hood gemini foil with a 5-5.5 mm luff tape for a Plastimo 1012T roller reefing. (on three sails)

SWMBO has only sailed with roller reefing and I think it would be unfair of me to expect her (or even old me) to do peel changes when cruising. I can always take the drum off if I wish to race with a larger crew.

Cheers

Iain
