Sail Maker \"Mushroom\" Logo

I just know that I have opened myself up here for clever wits that frequent this forum however needs must!
Can anyone identify the sail maker that uses a "Mushroom" logo on their product; the sails are vintage 1977/8.
Thanks
Neil

I certainly wouldn't make any supposedly funny comments re: mushrooms, fungi, cleaning sails, drying sails, etc.
On the other hand I don't know the answer to you question. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Possibly...

Possibly Mushroom Sails? Do a Google search and you'll find listings for firms of this name at Taylors Yard, The Hythe, Maldon, Essex, and at Hall Lane, Walton on the Naze, Essex. No guarantee that they're still in business!

Re: Sail Maker \"Mushroom\" Logo

Long shot. Is it definitely a mushroom? Ratseys used a red semicircle, at that sort of date, and the red colour fades, over that time scale, to faint pink.

Re: Sail Maker \"Mushroom\" Logo

I've seen that mark - a black mushroom (like the one used to darn socks!). It was an East Coast sailmaker, so the ones given so far sound good to me.

Doh ! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Just realised you are referring to a Sailmaker's logo rather than a Boatmaker's logo so my link is about as much use as a useless thing that just broke ...

Re: Sail Maker \"Mushroom\" Logo

Yup, Mushroom Sails, formerly of Brightlingsea. When I was a nipper 30+ years ago he used to go in & out of business with some regularity depending on whether he had any work on I think! As other folks have pointed out, now listed on various websites as being in Walton-on-Naze but I'd be surprised if he's still going (no listings with BT or Yell and Mr Mushy must be getting on a bit).

Thanks to all for the comments and for being so restrained!!!
Its the Mr Mushroom of Brightlinsea I needed so thanks again.

Late again!

But if it is Mushroom Sails, they were over at the sail loft in Old Hall Lane until about 2/3 years back when there was a major fire, and the sail loft was one of the buildings destroyed. As MikeBz (Hiya Beezer!!) rightly says, Mushy started trading in Brightlingsea back in the mid '70's, then after various trading/not trading spells moved his business in with another loft in Maldon, finally moving over to work alongside East Coast Sails in Walton. Dave Thurston aka 'Mushy' has I believe now retired...I certainly haven't seen him about for some time!
