Now, I realise this is probably the most basic of basic things, and I'm well aware that I may be being entirely numb, but after having a sail gate entry tongue fell out recently I have purchased a sail entry rubber pad piece for the gate so that it doesn't fall out. The problem I am finding is that with the rubber piece slid into the tongue it doesn't allow for the sail to raise through it. I can't find anything online on how this is supposed to work. Obviously losing the sail entry tongue whilst at sea is a little problematic.

Any advice, or fixes would be really appreciated.

Thank you,

A.S.P

Look in the online Selden catalogue.

Thank you. I have looked at their catalogue/site (It's where I ordered a couple of rubber pieces from). I do place it, or try to place it, at the bottom as you have described but it just doesn't seem to be staying in place? I'm obviously doing something wrong but the description on the Selden site only really speaks of the tongue and not the rubber piece itself.

On my kemp mast gate the tongue has a back at the bottom. The bit of rubber is behind this and seems to be pushed into place. The rubber in mine is fairly small but I seem to remember replacing it years ago. A new main meant that I required a different type of gate. Getting the tongue in out with the rubber in place isn't easy, especially on a table !

Spot on, thank you. That makes more sense now. I did place it there but it wouldn't hold. I suspect I perhaps need a different sized pad. Initially I had slid it into the tongue which admittedly was rather (very) silly thinking about it.

Thanks again, all.

You were NOT wrong my friend. I‘ve tried all sorts. There has to be a simpler way than just trying to force it in. I’ve sprayed it, tried to lube it, blimey! I even emailed Saden who sell the rubbers for the sail gates.

(still trying)
