Off the shelf or do I have to have one made? Its for a Liesure 23.......I could make one myself, but its time etc etc.....

You can get them off the shelf from chandlers such as Force 4 - sold by boom length, or just about any sailmaker or canvas worker, or DIY with material from somebody like Hawke House. Tendency is to have them custom made, particularly if you want a stack pack type.

When you get to your new mooring in addition to following up any suggestions already made that take your fancy pop into "Cover Care" in Thornham marina.

Covers are their business and its small family firm so might well be competitive. Also handily placed!

They did the sacrificial strip on my genoa a couple of years ago :)

.

I got one from an ebay shop for £60 for Feckless.
It has lasted 3 years, and has just ripped.

I got one made by Goacher sails in 2006 for Slippy and it's still going strong, but cost £160

Mainsail/boom cover

The design of the cover will depend on whether you leave the main sail on slugs in the mast or like me you sue the bolt rope and take the sail out of the mast. if you leave it in the mast the dimensions of the bulk of mainsail up the mast is important.
The fabric used for the cover is really important. I have made them from cheap canvas and they just don't last in the sun and wind. The proper polyester UV resistant cloth is quite heavy and very expensive.
It is reasonable to make your own but it will not be much cheaper than having a sail maker make it as they will buy the cloth much cheaper. Make sure he gives you robust attachments as press studs or velcro may not be up to the job ion a wind. good luck olewill
