Sai tie knot?

I haven't joined this century yet. I use a continuous line with a sort of blanket stitch. The line is shiny and instead of the traditional buntlines hitch I have a neat way of keeping the tension on.

Buntline hitch - thanks, that's the one I had in mind.

Really? Seems an odd choice. The whole point of a buntline hitch is that it's very hard to undo, because the buntlines are attached along the foot of a square sail and so are always being shaken around. When we changed a topsail on Stavros, the Bosun said not to bother trying to untie them, just cut them off.

Are you sure that's the knot you mean?

(When we had sail ties I always just used a single slipped half-hitch through the eye. On the new boat we've joined the stack-pack brigade.)

I'd suggest removing the bowline and using a reef knot. It's not a high load appication and most people can quickly tie and untie a reef knot blindfold.
