I ordered a bilge pump and float switch online from Safety Marine's website on 21 December last year.

They were closed over the Christmas period but my card was charged on 3 January. Since then, we have not received anything and have no record of any attempted delivery either.

As I did not want to leave the boat without a working bilge pump for too long, I bought one from our local chandler (more expensive!) and e-mailed Safety Marine asking them to cancel the order.

I have e-mailed them using the address on the order confirmation and website three times over many weeks - but still no response. No returned e-mail either.

Has anyone had similar experiences with them? Are they OK - I hope so?

The local chandler, who will be there when you want to buy 12p's worth of screws, was more expensive for the bilge pump. What a surprise.
I always use my local chandler because I want them to survive.
For big things I say "i can get it for x, do you want the business". They usually do and come close enough in price for me to be happy. I'm happy to pay a little more for a bilge pump, just for convenience and support. And this one cost you double for saving a few pennies.
Some people go in, try on clothes and then blatantly say, "I'll now buy it on line as I know it fits". That's just disgraceful.

Yes I can agree with all that, I always try and support the marina chandlery whe has got me out of a muddle on a Sunday morning a couple of times.

I am having similar troubles over my order. No replies to emails, and phone either is not answered or gives me a recorded request to leave a message. I do this, but it doesn't get answered.

Stop wasting your time. You can claim off the credit card company for a full refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

My issue was resolved by a single call. Normally I have limited time during business hours. The guy was friendly and it was clear that my previous emails were received but just not properly actioned. Seemed more of an issue with how they work rather than company having issues. Their prices were better than other websites so I would use them again where time is not an issue.

I read the companies profit and loss account, I am always suspicious of limited companies who list "Goodwill" at £21,000. as if they go bust the "Goodwill" evaporates.
