Although I will most likely read this myself in the morning in disbelief this is actualyn a serious question

A freinf has jus phoned me to say he has a Princess 360n and he has agreed to take 30-35 adults on a riner cruise.

Inland, 3-12 knots max, what do you think id=s a safe maximum number of passengers ?

Inland only
fine weather
4 miles max

His boat I think is a princess 360 11 mwetres long flybridge, has a fully servieeed life raft , if most stay down below it should be stable , and how much bubbly would you think he needs ?

I think he ought to have a quick check with his unsurance company.

The idea of 35 units of moveable cargo, say 2.8 tonnes, rushing from side to side, fills me with concern about the fragile relationship between his CofG, the Metacentre and centre of buoyancy.

I've not heard of "free surface effect" being applied to humans before, but the Coastguard report will make interesting reading.

"I think 35 is going over the top though. What happens if they all rush to one side??"

Boat falls on it's ear, people fall off boat, boat then resumes upright position and carries on underway........Risk averted! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Stability ????? and if you getting paid it's a charter??? have you 35 life jackets and life rafts to suit?? be careful. Its realy more about your legal position if it goes wrong rather than can the boat do it.

Wasn't someone prosecuted a couple of years back for overloading a small cabin cruiser on a river or canal somewhere. I seem to remember it was not much over 20' and had a dozen or so people on it, including children. The boat turned turtle trapping people in the cabin and at least one person drowned from what I recall.
