gentleman of the surgical persuasion sailed to Cowes yesterday in rather light and clement conditions on Cornish Maid and proved to be excellent and congenial company in the prevailing conditions.

An excellent evening was had by the combined crew in the Lifeboat Inn and subsequently we were joined by the afore-said gentleman's SWMBO who had enjoyed a successful day's horse-riding. She had come across to the Island by car.

Sunday morning dawned to a deluge of rain and the promise of mod to strong NE winds. After an excellent breakfast and the perusal of the Sunday papers, it was evident that the distinguished gentleman was having second thoughts about sailing back to Haslar. A mere ten miles to windward on a well-found yacht, proven in inclement conditions, apparently left this stalwart of the yachting community questioning his ability to endure adverse weather on the Solent.

And in fact he left us to return to the mainland in the comfort of a warm car and the navigation skills of Red Funnel Ferries. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The trouble was, dear hounds, that aforesaid Maid's idea of a screen to protect one from the elements was - wait for it - cling film!! ok, it was bought at my store but how could one be seen in such inferior clothing? As it was the Maid and her owners motored back to Haslar whilst I was sampling the delights (not) of the Castle.
Thanks to Becky and Richard for a great evening, and please could the forepeak be extended by 6"?

Re: Sadly ...East Cowes

We were in East Cowes on Saturday night - a bit in the back of beyond, but a very nice marina. No wash seems to get inside and the facilities are light years ahead of certain Cowes marinas one could mention (though why the urinals were flushing with hot water last night escapes me).

Seeing the forecast last night we took the Elan31 we had borrowed back to Swanwick early (before anyone missed it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif).
Very nice boat - I know the tide was with us but we had sustained spells of 8 - 9 knots on the GPS at 30 - 40 degrees apparent beating back from Yarmouth to Cowes on Saturday.

Can't wait for my 340 to arrive.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Might state that the cling-film windscreen survived all the way home in quite strong winds; saw 26 knots on the nose in one gust. And Mr Sainsbury's product toook it in its stride /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Who needs to spend a fortune on thick acrylic?
