I'm thinking of buying a Sadler but am dubious about the moulded headliners most seem to have.

How to your detect/cure leaks with such an arrangement? The one I have seen seem to have no means of accessing the underside of a leaking deck fitting. Am I Missing something

As I am sure you know, Sadlers were built with a double skin arrangement to provide the "unsinkable" label. Double skin also provides better insulation, warmer boat, less condensation. However, it does make things difficult if you do have a problem such as the one you describe and heavy hull damage repair can be expensive.
When we had our Sadler 29 surveyed, the report was peppered with apologies from the surveyer that he was unable to access certain parts of the boat during his inspection.

That aside, I don't think you will regret buying a Sadler. They are well-built, solid and sturdy and great sea boats.
Mike Lucas will be able to give you chapter and verse and answer all your queries.

That said,
