Hi all
The genoa cars on my Sadler 29 have had their day and i need to find some replacements. The old ones are Gibb and have a 32mm track that is 6mm thick, the barton 32mm ones are for a 5mm thick track. Will I get away with taking a bit out of the plastic sliders that the new ones are fitted with?

forelle542,

sorry I don't quite get it, if the new cars are for a shallower track what's the problem they'll have more clearance, and surely the business load bearing part won't be plastic ?

Cos if the track is 6mm thick a car designed to fit on a thinner (5mm) track wont go on it!

I guess the OP is looking at something like 32-100

I'd think it might be difficult to modify to fit.... Worth looking at one "in the flesh" to see if it looks a possibility.

Remove material from above the track rather than from below it if possible I'd think.

Thinning the track down to 5mm possible????

I have the towable version of the Barton cars shown in VicS picture on my Sadler 32. The guy who fitted them made the plastic sliders thinner, not sure if how (sanding/file?). I've had them for 5 years and they work fine. It would be simpler if you can get inserts for 6mm track from Barton as suggested by Snooks.

The old cars were not fit for everday use but I've kept them on the track, forward of the new cars, so I can rig a second set of sheets when using a sail on the detachable inner forestay.

I asked Barton this question at the Boat Show.I said I had Lewmar 32mm track. The Barton sales manager on the stand said when I buy the cars to give him a ring and they will supply the inserts for the Lewmar track.
His name is Christian Brewer tel 01227 792979 mobile 07515 328792.You may wish to ring him for a chat before you purchase.
I haven't bought mine yet.
By the way www.marinestore.co.uk have a sale on at the moment and they are the cheapest price I can find for Barton.
I have dealt with them before and they are very good.

My tracks are also 32x6mm. Cars that fit without any modification are those from Rutgerson and Pfeiffer. I use towable cars from the former and sliding cleats from the latter – both are good.
