Sabre 80hp high oil pressure

Odd bits that have cropped up during inspection. Engine has to be at least 20+ years old probably more, surveyor cranked it over cautiously doing all the sensible precautions to his surprise it started wheezing at first but soon settled into diesel tick over sound he left it running for a couple of minutes. The only thing that had him worried was oil pressure gauge hit 70 psi and didn’t drop even after 30 mins of turning off, any ideas as to cause. He did intend to change oil and filter before starting but I suspect he got carried along with the excitement. Any ideas why gauge stuck. Does anyone know what pressure the release valve opens.

The hitting 70 psi cold would not worry me, the pressure release is likely to be around 70 to 80 psi.
The gauge staying up after stopping would concern me, you need to establish if the pressure is really still there of if the gauge is just stiff assuming its a mechanical one.
If its an electric gauge then it is likely faulty.
 
Surely it is impossible for the oil pressure to remain high after the engine has stopped? The oil pump will not be running, and oil within the engine will be leaking out of the bearings quickly.
This points to a faulty gauge.

I was thinking more of the pressure being trapped in the gauge or the capillary pipe due to a kink or blockage rather than the bearings being a perfect fit!
