Dear all I am planning to take a six month sabbatical in the med, Im looking for a long term lease of a sail boat, does anybody know who might do this type of lease or do you know any boat owner who might consider ?
Maybe some one having difficulty selling there boat would consider
Any advise would be most greatful

Tend to agree with the above. I am preparing a boat for long distance cruising but not going for while due to work etc so would (in theory) be in a position to consider such a thing. BUT - to be worth while I would expect £6 - £8K as a lease fee plus some pretty bomb proof damage ins so from your point of view does not seem terribly practical.

If you are looking at leasing a boat thats only prepared for coastal cruising what are you going to do about extra kit, if you buy it what do you do with it when the trip is over? Also what about stuff that needs fitting to the boat or upgrading (ground takle on most coastal boats is unsuitable for longer cruising.

One possibility if you are not looking to do any extended passages would be to contact one of the charter companies with a view to long term charter. There are always a number of charter boats decommissioned and sold on each season so they may be interested in letting you have one for six months at a much reduced rate since it extends the working life of the boat at no cost to them. But, like I say, I would not consider crossing Biscay in such a boat so it would have to be available where you wanted to cruise.
