After so miuch messing about, looking at boats etc. I still want an S23with a KAD32.

All the ones I have been looking at are 2002 which is perfect year for me, come with the usual VHF and depth sounder. Some have immersions which are important, all have trim tabs etc...

Now they're pretty much all asking for £39-40k ... How much should I put an offer of? They're all brokerage and as I live in Ireland, once I buy the seller will never see me again... hence could be considered 'Sold as seen' .... I was thinking £35 would be fair (Someone said earlier they saw an S23 sell for £32k last year) ... What do you lot reckon?

Neil,

A good clean 02 S23 with Kad 32 is worth around £35K. So offer £32 given the current climate. Alternatively you can get an Aquador 23HT for £39k if you ask nicely...03 with kad 32!

cheers

£35k is my budget budget to be honest. I couldn't condone spending more given the weather we're having. I *was* set on a Leader 805 but just don't see the point in spending that much money on a 25ft boat.

The 23HT is a lovely boat, but cabin just that bit too small. Sexy as hell to look at though /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Will send a few offer's of £32k (pending survey) and see what people say... The problem is I have to deal over the phone/email (As im in ireland) so generally people don't take me seriously... must be my handsome young voice...!

Niall,
I bought a S23 02 last Autumn from a broker with an advertised price of over 39K. Negotiated 35.5K as there was some work to be done. Engine hours 170.
There are bargains to be had, however my advice is to make sure you have it surveyed as there can be hairline cracks found in the forward bulkheads from hard use. In my case Sealine honoured the repairs free of charge.

Good luck!

Hi foot,
Thank's for that, the more knowledge the better. Where exactly were the cracks? Were they internal, or on the hull? How were they repaired... and if not repaired what damage could happen?

Niall,
The cracks were found port and starboard below the waterline hidden from the naked eye beneath the anti foul. A marine survey's porisity meter will discover if there is a problem?
Mine was the very first S23 off the production line, the problem is where the internal hull reinforcements meet the hull. A look in under the forward seat hatch will show you the location of where I mean.
Sealine agreed in my case this was a design fault and recalled the boat back to their factory, repaired both sides of the hull, how i'm not sure, re carpeted it and gave it a free coat of anti foul for good measure. All in all it cost me only a lift out and relaunch!!

Four of us have just spent a week living on the boat visiting IOW and surrounding inlets from Eastbourne. A bit of a squeeze but perfectly managable and over all I think it a great little boat.

Regards
Mike

Niall - I concur with Mike - we had a similar problem with our which Sealine fixed and even extended the warranty - PM me your e-maill address and I'll see if I can send you a copy of the original survey so you can see what our problems were.
I must admit the guys at Sealine were honest and open about the repair to the boat which we had re-surveyed

The S23 I know of (2002 model I think) that sold last Summer for £32k had been up for £39k if memory serves. There are bargains to be had; autumn is fast approaching and lots of boats on the market. Given this any S23 that isn't top notch and very well equipped is going to stick. Be cheeky, offer on boats that have been up for a while, and given you're in Ireland I'd make it clear when offering that you'll place the deposit electronically to the broker and get the survey commissioned immediately. Don't know if you're a cash buyer or taking out a marine mortgage, but if cash buyer make this clear too. If you don't ask you don't get!

Paul - I have e-mailed you. Thank's I look forward to reading your Survey.

AdeOlly - Yes I am a cash buyer. I would be willing to fly over and place a 5% cash deposit pending survey. Should I be mentioning this? (I'm guessing yes)

Paul and footsak - When you mention 'Sealine', to you mean the factory? Did you get in touch directly? I've been talking to Adam from BurtonWaters. He has a 2003 in stock at the moment, and a 2004. I'm only interested in the 2003 as budget doesn't allow a 2004. He say's all of their boat's are survey'ed, antifouled etc. but obviously I would be getting an 'independent' survey done. Have a look at the 2003 here: http://search.boatshop24.co.uk/boatdetailpopup.asp?btsrefno=8782555&callpage=externalbrokerlist

I would prefer to buy private as there's more room for haggling. Also, since the boat would be going to Ireland, a warranty etc. wouldn't be much good to me

Thanks for the info guys, and Paul, I got your mail, thanks.

So, since i've got 2 S23 owner's in the corner.... At the end of the day:

1) Would you recommend an S23?
2) Are they worth the money?
3) Could you do better for the same money?
4) What would you change, if you could? (Apart from making her 10ft longer, etc. etc.....)

This might give you some more reference points:-

S25 - 2006 with D3 - £59,950
S25 - 2005 KAD 32 - £52,950
S25 - 2005 KAD 32 - £49,950
S23 - 2002 KAD 32 - £39,995

I think most of them are still available! Contact Solent Motor Yachts and speak to the guy - Geraint, Dan or Ben.

What connection do I have? If you come and look at one it will most likely be me that takes you out for the sea trial. Apart from that - none!

Solatire - The problem is that no one will give me a genuinly 'rock bottom' price over the phone. This is very understandable, i'm some stranger ringing from another country saying 'How low will you go' ... I need to find someone on the phone that know's if the price is right i'll go over with the jeep and trailer (And a wad of cash/draft) next week ... Times like this I wish I lived in the UK
