I have an autohelm 1000 and want to connect it to a garmin 152 GPS? Ive been told that autohelm uses sea talk and if i want to connect it to Gramin useing nema it wont work propely??

Ray marine dont make seatalk GPS or any other GPS is this really true and will my Grarmin not work with my autohelm???

I havent bought the GPS yet so can still change if there is a proper alternative?

I think that the Autohelm 1000+ will work directly with NMEA but not the 1000. For the 1000 to do so requires a conversion box (NMEA/SEATALK) which can be bought. It is a Raymarine Product and although compact it costs quite a bit.

As Bob says above, if it is the Autohelm ST1000+ (note the "plus"), it will work with either Seatalk or NMEA. The slightly older ST1000 would only work with Seatalk, and requires the Interface Box. The even older AH1000 would not work with anything.

"Is there any gps on the market that uses seatalk??" Not that I know of.

Stick with the Autohelm, and have a good trip.

It would have been difficult for them to do so. When they produced the 1000 it was "Seatalk" only. Their upgraded replacement is the 1000+ which additionally receives NMEA. However they are both excellent Autopilots - I have a 2000, not 2000+, and had to get the interface box.
