i am about to buy and install the above, my current autohelm connector is three pin, will this connector work with seatalk, or do i need more pins for just the above two items ?
regards
Simon,
if you look here http://snipurl.com/e22o, on page 24 of the pdf or page 49 of the instruction booklet, it will show you the connections looking at the rear of the plug.
I have an autohelm 1000 and want to connect it to a garmin 152 GPS? Ive been told that autohelm uses sea talk and if i want to connect it to Gramin useing nema it wont work propely??
Ray marine dont make seatalk GPS or any other GPS is this really true and will my Grarmin not work with my autohelm???
I havent bought the GPS yet so can still change if there is a proper alternative?
I think that the Autohelm 1000+ will work directly with NMEA but not the 1000. For the 1000 to do so requires a conversion box (NMEA/SEATALK) which can be bought. It is a Raymarine Product and although compact it costs quite a bit.
As Bob says above, if it is the Autohelm ST1000+ (note the "plus"), it will work with either Seatalk or NMEA. The slightly older ST1000 would only work with Seatalk, and requires the Interface Box. The even older AH1000 would not work with anything.
"Is there any gps on the market that uses seatalk??" Not that I know of.
I hope ive got the 1000+ i bought the one with the key pad. When i had one befor (1986) i always pressed the wrong button and tacked the wrong way!!(often)
OK Peww ive got the +!! Can i buy a garmin 152 to use with the 100+?
I have a Garmin 152 connected to an Autohelm 1000+, Silva S15 DSC radio and a NASA GPS Repeater and all works just fine using NMEA. I also have the Autohelm remote control which uses Seatalk.

It would have been difficult for them to do so. When they produced the 1000 it was "Seatalk" only. Their upgraded replacement is the 1000+ which additionally receives NMEA. However they are both excellent Autopilots - I have a 2000, not 2000+, and had to get the interface box.
