My s/s standing rigging was replaced 12 months by a reputable firm in the Solent.
The wire rigging has some apparent "rust" marks where it enters the bottle screws.
I have not taken it back yet and asked the question of the rigger - BUT ..... Is this normal? or should I take it back...????
Thanks
John

The usual cause of rust staining on wire rigging is that tiny crevices have been created during the drawing process. These generate crevice corrosion, on a very minor scale, and hence staining. This usually occurs on much of the wire and is removed by polishing.
If yours is only over a short length adjacent to the swage then it probably is not this. It may be that ferrous tools have been used, maybe to make the swage or during the swaging process and the transferred steel has subsequently corroded.
