So end of season last year - we dropped mast and checked mast electric cables ... Steaming light cable we replaced ... anchor light cable tested fine on Ohms ... Cleaned all lights contacts etc. Bulbs fine.

Boat is launched over here ... repairs to Switch panel ... and then its deck plugs ... Bronze "Aldis lamp" plug / socket type ... so it's decided to remove insides and use bronze bodies as water-tight covers ... use screw-terminal block inside.

So all done ... liberal doses of sealant to make sure ...

Steaming light brill ! Anchor light Nil ! Yep you guessed it ... cables duff !

Well it can wait till I lower mast for bridges in a months time ...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!

Nigel, I'm surprised an old codger like you got caught out like this. Surely by now you know that the little electron gremlins get busy munching connections as soon as you lower a mast?

I've also been caught out (several times, ahem) and now wouldn't dream of raisning a mast without checking all the electrics first

I hope the gods were not listening yesterday evening ....

Before winter when temps were still ok ... I put 12v across the cable ends and light was fine at other ... that and the ohms test before leaving UK ... !!

No justice !

Maybe it was the twisted together wires and selotape repairs that gave up the ghost?

Bulb might have gone???

Will find out later .... but ohms shows near zero resistance - so its connected somewhere !! if not the bulb. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Should have kept my mouth shut.

Recabled everything in my mast, checked it out when on the ground. AOK.

Mast goes back in, muggins joins the cables. Steaming light doesn't work (tho' amps/ohms/watts/volts are getting into the cable according to my multimeter).

My suspicion is that the fitting was given a bash during stepping the mast.

So I've now got a duff fitting/bulb 25' above deck. Grrrrr.
