Ryanair's new website

Yes, I am saying exactly that.

It happened to me at Cork on 7 April. I missed train and bus connections as a result.

There was absolutely no choice and I did not know this was happening until I had my boarding card ripped and my passport checked at the departure gate. I was given a baggage sticker and told to deposit my (one) bag at the foot of the rear door steps.

So, no longer can solo travellers sit quietly in the lounge whilst others board - then quietly slip on and off the plane for a hasty exit on arrival - unless you buy priority boarding.

However, just to clarify. The two bag policy is not two full size carry on bags. it is one full size and a laptop/handbag/duty free etc. However, as soon as this was instigated, it was abused. One woman got extremely upset when the attendant told her she must remove the half dozen soft toys (for her kid) she had stuffed into the locker.

Both recent flights I took were considerably delayed taking off solely due to the poor frustrated cabin crew desperately trying to stow even the first 90 carry on articles. God knows what would have happened if everybody had boarded with ALL their carry on.

This will only get worse as the high season approaches.

Sounds like O'Leary gets the passengers he deserves - c'mon folks, don't state the obvious, Ryanair is the airline to avoid, just persuade the mother-in-law to fly by them and keep O'Leary's competitive effect on the rest.
Plenty other budget airlines - Easyjet, FlyBe, Jet2.com, Norwegian, Transavia, Germanwings, to mention a few Europeans.
Mind it would deprive us Brits of our favourite occupation - complaining (and doing nothing about it).

I can always guarantee myself a BA flight @ (usually) lower prices than the budget airlines by a little careful planning.

BA allow all passengers 2 cabin bags, plus a hold bag of 53% greater weight than any budget airlines, as standard. They have introduced, on some flights (usually with inadequate 737s) a hand-baggage only, low-price flight that is headline competitive with the budget airlines, in practice when you look at the other benefits you get it's considerably better value for money.

No commercial interest - just a very happy, long-term, customer.

Not all aircraft have adequate cabin baggage space - flew BHX-LYS in a Bombardier - 8, and everyone had difficulty fitting their standard-size airline bags into the overhead lockers .That aircraft was built in 2009.

The 737 is a very long-in-the-tooth design (1964) and, even the latest re-engined, eco-modified MAX series has the same old narrow-body fuselage, even if wings, motors and cockpit have been modified. I'm sure ;-) O'Leary makes sure he leases all the inspection rejects!!

I would totally agree about the insanity of flying with any charter flights - only advantage is that they fly into various obscure, provincial, UK, airports - but having seen the depressed folk hanging around Preveza and heard of the sort of money they're paying, I begin to doubt their commercial commonsense.

I once flew back, from Malta, in a charter DC9,( out a year after the 737) which had the (apparent) benefit of landing me back in BHX rather than Stansted. Little did I know that it flew via Tyne-Tees. I was crippled for about 3 weeks after - inadequate leg-room, adipose fellow-passengers, in under-width seats. Never again!!

OK, so if you want to fly to the UK from Tenerife South airport, how much does it cost on BA? How much with Ryanair?
Using Skyscanner for 15th May, it looks like Ryanair wins on price hands down, 8 times cheaper than BA. I can put up with a bit of inconvenience for that price differential.

BA? BA???

Interesting you say that about BA, Charles. Unfortunately I have to fly around a bit, with work. I hate it, I hate Airports, I hate flying...I hate all of it..(sorry, rant over)
Not all that long ago, I did have to fly a lot with BA. I was an 'Economy+' passenger and it was truly awful. I'll never fly with them again. I've a colleague (Brit) based out of Italy and flies nearly every week to Asia and thereabouts...and guess which is the ONLY airline he'll travel with? Yes Bloody BA..! and he's a genuine guy as well. OK, were both lucky that work flies us both Business or First, but to actually prefer BA????
Incidentally, being Middle East based, my fave' Airline?? Qatar Airways...!

To save having to trawl through Ts&Cs, what are the insurance implications of the 90 bags policy? Some items must be in carry on baggage.

I'm guessing the answer is a shrug of indifference.

You are still able to take one bag 35 x 20 x 20 cms on board even if your 'normal' carry on bag ends up in the hold. I will make sure I have the additional bag with any valuables in it.
