So it seems that the RYA has decided after the end of this season, that it no longer wishes to be the UK authority for powerboat racing.

So having nearly completely destroyed the sport with bureaucracy its walking away.

A shoddy performance, but finally a good result for the sport.

RYA is primarily a 'sailing' fraternity, always has been. Motor seems to have been tolerated as second best! Am I being unfair? UIM seems a more appropriate body for motor racing.

Have they been sued recently by the relations of someone killed or injured taking part in an event that they regulated? There was a similar situation in motorsports when in 1999 the RAC hived off it's motorsports regulation by floating the MSA, mainly to firewall itself from such litigation.

I joined the RYA some years ago as it seemed to be the principal lobbyist for all things recreational that float, but it is quite apparent that the chief raison d'etre is it's involvement in yachtie stuff.

However, it is important that we as recreational mariners try to speak with one voice. In aviation, the lobbyists have split and re-split into a veritable alpha-bet soup of organisations (reminiscent of The life of Brian and the Peoples front of Judea - AOPA, EAS, LAA, BMAA, BGA etc. etc.) and are now so hopelessly divided that there is no effective voice with which to lobby, but instead a discordant shouting mob.

Probably a decent opportunity for someone more closely connected to the MoBo scene to assume responsibility for the regulation of our sport? But I would also humbly suggest that it is also essential to have more of us (MoBo drivers) involved with the RYA to make sure that they remember who is paying the membership fees.
