RYA East Cruising Conference 2025 - Sunday 23rd November - Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Ipswich IP9 2RX
This event is designed for skippers, crews and anyone interested in cruising activity, especially those on the East Coast.

The day offers a wide choice of workshops and breakout sessions covering a huge range of subjects, including the historic Pioneer Trust, weather forecasting, passage planning for the Thames, assistive technology for the visually impaired, scientific information on anti-fouling, the work of the Essex Police Marine Unit and a live life-raft inflation. A range of exhibitors will also be in attendance, including the RNLI, NCI, Cruising Association, Essex Marine Police and the Coastguard

The programme has been developed this year to allow for more workshops and interactive sessions and less time in the large conference room. Spaces are limited for all sessions so please book early to ensure you get your first choices.

The ticket price includes an excellent buffet lunch and plenty of tea and coffee. Please join us at this inspiring venue for a great day of activity and the opportunity to meet like-minded people from across the region. Please see the link to the full agenda and booking form here:-

RYA East Cruising Conference 2025

Perhaps they can spend some time this year on "brotherly love" There are some clubs who extend the hand of friendship and a welcome to visiting yachtsmen and point out the showers and invite you into their bar for a drink and some who are totally the opposite. Surly glances and an unwelcome demeanour. New Rule to be a member of the RYA, for every twenty moorings one must be supplied for genuine visiting boaters/sailors/yachtsmen (and women of course.) Perhaps we should have a league table of who provides the biggest welcome.

First plus two on the list, Walton and Frinton yacht club, beautiful club, beautiful facilities, warm welcome, bacon butties on demand, when I was last there the commodore came up, shook my hand and welcomed me and what a truly fine restaurant. Plus of course Manningtree, another wonderful club with visitor moorings and always, yes always a welcome with a wonderful bar upstairs overlooking the massive estuary and clean modern showers.

Wrong conference for your gripe; you need the RYA Clubs Conference and not the RYA Cruising Conference. However, I take your point; I was shown photographs of the entrances of two boat clubs, one said: 'Private - Members Only' and the other: 'New Members Welcome'. There is one 'Royal' club near here that still posts a list of applicants at reception, presumably for members to blackball if they wish.
