Can anyone recommend an RYA Diesel course where you work on on larger engines (Volvo KAD 300's for example) rather than the smaller sailing yacht diesel engines that most courses i've seen offer. Preferably south coast.
Thanks

if your in scotland the scotsail training at largs marina are doing one on the 1st or 2nd of march im booked on it diesel engine rya course they are also doing a vhf course the next day
regards john

Try SeaStart at Hamble Point. Did my course there. Bryn Jones was the man. Not a lot he doesn't know about diesel engines. The engine they used wasn't a Volvo, (can't remember what it was) but was a 6 pot of similar size to a Volvo K/AD series.

There was talk at the Wokingham pub meet just before Christmas whereby it was suggested a Diesel engine course "should" be run on one's own boat.

Difficulty being that the "classroom" engine can be manipulated to produce faults that you have to find.

Suggestion was then whether the course could be split, classroom and own boat.

This from a forumite who does run some deisel engine courses, and much more besides !

I'll bring it up again, so to speak, at the next meet.

you could try glasgow college of nautical studies- they have a couple of real ship engines in running order and a real chief engineer ( steam and motor 0 to run the course.
